Transmissions at Nuit Blanche Toronto!

NBTO2017-webgraphics-blogpost-1SubZeroArts is very pleased to announce that our latest multi-point sound/art installation Transmissions will be presented at 401 Richmond as part of Nuit Blanche Toronto on Saturday, September 30th!

Transmissions creates an aural environment defined by white noise as broadcast by 16 mounted antennae-like metal spires positioned within a contained location. The sounds of cosmic radiation, sun spots, encryption anomalies, and more are all interwoven by the spires to create a unique environment defined by audio frequency radio waves such as tweaks, crackles, and swishes, bringing previously unheard sounds to the forefront of consciousness, inviting participants to acknowledge and experience their aesthetic nature without subconscious filters. Through the creation of this new environment within a previously existing location, participants will be encouraged to recognize the reality of the myriad spaces around them, and the many possible futures that those spaces offer.

We’re very excited about presenting Transmissions as part of Nuit Blanche Toronto, and we’ll be sharing more information with you over the next few weeks leading up to the event. In the meantime, be sure to like us on Facebook or add us on Twitter or Instagram to keep up to date with all the details!

SubZeroArts is very pleased to announce that our latest installation Transmissions will be presented by New Adventures in Sound Art at NAISA North Gallery in South River. Transmissions is a multi-point sound art installation that uses a collection of touch-sensitive antennae to trigger abstract sounds and tones, creating a unique sound environment for audience participants to explore. We’re thrilled to be working with NAISA again, and we hope that you’ll come out and see Transmissions if you’re in the area!

NAISA North Gallery is located at 106 Ottawa Avenue, South River, Ontario, and Transmissions will be on display from February 4th to 26th on Saturdays and Sundays between 11am and 4pm. More information about NAISA can be found on their website.

Transmissions1 Our latest installation Transmissions has been on display in Montreal for over a week now and we’re really excited by the response that it’s been getting so far. In keeping with the theme of this year’s Art Souterrain event, we’ve been very pleased to see that Transmissions has opened up an interesting dialogue with viewers about the nature of art and whether or not it needs to be appealing. We very much appreciate hearing your thoughts on the matter and we encourage you to let us know what you think!

You can visit Transmissions at the Place de la Cité Internationale – OACI at 999 University in Montreal until March 20th. In addition to our piece, there are a number of other really engaging and interesting pieces on display as part of Art Souterrain and we hope that you’ll have the opportunity to explore them all.

SubZeroArts are very pleased to announce the debut of our latest sound-art experience “Transmissions”, appearing as part of Montreal’s Art Souterrain from February 27th to March 20th, 2016.

“Transmissions” is a new installation exploring the concept of Noise as Art. Using naturally occurring white noise, “Transmissions” establishes a new space for audience exploration created by naturally occurring white noise and sounds hidden deep within silence and lost radio signals. “Transmissions” exposes the audience to a more natural state of hearing through an aural environment defined by super-positioning white noise as received, processed, and broadcast by a collection of antennae-like metal spires located around the staging area. While these naturally occurring aural sources are normally filtered out of our conscious hearing, “Transmissions” discretely blends these sources to create a fluid soundscape defined by audio frequency radio waves that we would normally be unaware of, providing an opportunity to experience a more accurate representation of the natural sounds that surround us.

We’re both very excited about returning to Montreal, and we’ll be sharing more information with you over the next few days leading up to the event. In the meantime, be sure to like us on Facebook or add us on Twitter to keep up to date with all the details.

Thank you Camp Wavelength!

Cubeism 2

Wow, what an amazing weekend! Camp Wavelength was definitely one of the highlights of the summer, filled with awesome music, fantastic art, and new friends. SubZeroArts were really flattered to be included in such an excellent collection of talents, and we’re really thrilled that you all enjoyed Cubeism so much!

Every day of the weekend had some really amazing highlights for us. All the bands we saw were great, particularly Loscil, Pierre Kwenders, and Absolutely Free and Petrina Ng. We also really enjoyed the art installations, especially our neighbours the Laser Dragon and the Space Ants, together with the Cubes we think that our shared little neck of the woods was a pretty cool place to be.

In-Synch were fabulous, and we totally want bat-wing swimming caps now, and Open Fortress were another highlight with their haunting performance in the lake on Saturday. The weather was perfect, just the right blend of overcast light to complement the otherworldly element of their work.

We want to thank all of the event staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make everything happen, you’re all amazing and incredible and awesomely awesome and the best of hosts. Particularly big applause goes out to Evely, who drove us everywhere we needed to go all weekend long, the sound and power staff who stretched cables and gave us sound and power, and especially Aaron Dawson, who was such an incredible support for us in the weeks leading up to the event and was able to help us with everything we needed over the weekend. It takes a ton of people to make an event like this happen, and all of you deserve a big huge standing ovation for everything you’ve done!

So now that the weekend is over, we’re wondering if we can do it again next weekend?

Cubeism at Camp Wavelength 8-29-15There’s still time to make it out to Camp Wavelength for some awesome music and art (including Cubeism) tonight and Sunday!

Visit the Camp Wavelength site to find out more details about tickets and other relevant details.

We’d love to see you here!

It’s getting closer…

wavelength2015-webgraphics-slide1

We’re less than one week away from Camp Wavelength, and we’ve been working like busy little bees to get everything ready for the debut of Cubeism. It’s been a long time since we’ve done an installation in Toronto and we’re really excited about sharing the cubes with all of our T-Dot friends!

So a few of you have already been in touch with us about details and logistics and all that super-important stuff. So we’ve been directing everybody to this awesomely awesome Camp Wavelength Info page that details everything you need to know about ticket prices, set times, traveling to the site by ferry, and what to bring for camping, among other good stuff like band bios and other neat things including a picture of us in our parkas on page 18 taken by our friend Melanie May Taillon! And just so you know, if you aren’t really that interested in camping, there are also day passes available too so you can enjoy the show and then go home to sleep in your own bed afterwards if you want.

So yeah, everything is coming together nicely, we’re really excited about next weekend, and we hope you are too!

wavelength2015-webgraphics-slide2SubZeroArts are pleased to announce that we’ll be presenting our latest installation “Cubeism” as part of Camp Wavelength at Artscape Gibraltar Point on the Toronto Island, August 28th to 31st. It’s been a long time since we’ve done something in Toronto and we’re really looking forward to seeing you there!

Cubeism is a new installation we’ve created for Camp Wavelength that uses light and sound to inform a location, creating a soothing new space to explore. We think it’s perfect for an outdoor event like Camp Wavelength which sounds to us like the best show of the summer. With bands like Holy Fuck, The Wooden Sky, Do Make Say Think, Loscil and more, Camp Wavelength promises to be a weekend to remember and we’re thrilled to be part of it.

We’ll be giving you some more details as we get closer to the show, but if you’re interested in finding out more about what’s in store that weekend you can visit the Camp Wavelength site. And if you want to keep up with SubZeroArts, be sure to like us on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter.
